SWIMMING

The Prep students are really looking forward to swimming in weeks 9 and 10. It is part of the curriculum and it is a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn, or build on, their swimming skills. It is also a great opportunity for the students to mix with other students from different classes. They will be in groups of approximately 6-8 students from across 3 of the prep classes and, as we begin to look towards next year (can you believe it!!), it can support the expansion of friendship groups and widen the ‘pool’ of familiar faces.

Please remember that all students are expected to change their own clothes at the pool. You can help them by encouraging them to dry themselves and get into their own pyjamas of a night and change from their pyjamas into their school clothes in the morning. This includes shoes and socks!!

INQUIRY

Our Inquiry unit for this term is, ‘How toys move.’ We have enjoyed looking at the different ways that our toys move, measuring the distances different balls can roll, learning about the importance of fair testing when comparing the distances and using different methods to show and discuss data that we collect. At the end of the unit we are hoping to make toys that have a moving part. To do this we would like everyone to start collecting any objects that we can use. In particular boxes, cereal boxes (no nuts) and shoe boxes are great sizes, rinsed out juice containers (please no egg cartons or toilet rolls) and any other scraps that you think would be useful.

SPORT

In week 8, 9 and 10 we have Prep sport on a Friday from 11 am- 12pm. If you are available to help us out with these sessions we would greatly appreciate it. Please speak to Eden Ralph in Prep B if you have any questions or would like further information.

BOOK WEEK

We have all enjoyed Book Week this week. We have focused on Australian authors in our reading sessions of a morning, including Melbourne author Nicki Greenberg. It has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to really focus on their comprehension skills (reading for meaning) and reading for pleasure.

We would like to encourage everyone to read books at home. As you read talk your thoughts aloud, wonder about the characters, what they’ll do next, what they’re feeling and why they’re feeling that way. Our students understand the pleasure that can be gained from books, and as you sit together and read, it is a wonderful opportunity to share the enjoyment that you find in reading too.
