Footy Day- Tuesday 16th September

Footy Day begins with a whole school assembly in our hall at 9.00am on Tuesday 16th September. Children are encouraged to wear footy clothes on the day; football jumpers, scarves and beanies, flags, coloured clothes of your favourite team, umpire outfits, etc. Please no coloured hairspray or face paint as we will be going swimming.  The fun will continue back in their classrooms before they enjoy a footy day lunch. Preps will be served early because of swimming.  Please ensure clothes are labelled with your child’s name as we continue to try and match the correct clothing to the correct child after our swimming lessons. Children are asked to bring a gold coin donation for Footy Day.

Wacky Wednesday

wacky wednesday

Wednesday 3rd September

Don’t panic, it is easy.

One of the sounds we are focusing on next week is W.  So on Wednesday we have a silly day called Wacky Wednesday. Children are invited to attend school in strange and unusual clothing -wigs, strange hairdos, odd socks, backward jumpers, socks as gloves, etc (as crazy as your child feels comfortable with). It is meant to be a fun day with wacky things happening throughout.

100 Days of School

The Preps had a great time celebrating their 100th day of school.  The parents had done  a wonderful job  turning the Prep’s ideas into reality with their costumes for our Parade. There were pirates, princesses, puppies, police officers,  pigs, polar bears, penguins, pandas, pineapples,  punks and so much more.  Despite the wind we paraded to an enthusiastic audience and smiled for the countless photos.

Lunch was delicious. Thank you to all the chefs.

We searched the school looking for all the numbers from 1-100, which had been  carefully stuck in all sorts of places- on poles, trees, letterboxes, walls, … everywhere! You had to hold onto your paper carefully or the wind stole it and it was impossible to catch again. We are still looking for number 15 somewhere in the school yard.

What excitement will we have next?

There is sure to be something soon.

LPS Passport Open Night

Laburnum Primary School will be opening up the school on the evening of Wednesday 27thAugust 2014 to give parents an insight into the many facets of their child’s learning. There will be a variety of educational sessions covering topics such as horizontal to vertical multiplication, homework, time management, study habits and parental support, school planning documents, team planning and AusVELS, Digital Excellence program (DEA), Cybersafety, Early Years Literacy, How to write an exposition and writing development as part of the school’s strategic plan, PE (Ball catching manipulation and connection to curriculum,) Science and even how to use BPay.

These topics will give you an insight into the “what” and the “how” of many aspects of learning that your child encounters in the course of a day at LPS.

You will need to collect your passport and choose your four 12 minute topic sessions, and then head to the first session. From there you will have your passport stamped ready to move on to your next session. Once your passport has collected four stamps you can put it into the draw for some AMAZING LPS prizes!

WOW what an incredible opportunity to take advantage of!

Come along and join in, we would love to see you be a part of Literacy, Numeracy and Science Week at LPS.

Officer Danny at School

We seem to be having one exciting visitor after another at school this term. It was Officer Danny who came this morning bringing lots of information, his police uniform and his police car.

We learnt that police  have helicopters, dogs, bikes and even horses. One prep did guess cows and another suggested cats! We talked about ringing ooo, a message that the firefighters will also bring next week.

A highlight was when two ‘prep sized’ police officers handcuffed Miss Sullivan.

But of course it was the police car with it’s very loud siren and flashing lights that was best loved. Everyone got to climb in, have a good look and press the red button for the siren.

Thank you Officer Danny for coming to visit.

Grandparents and Special Friends at School

We were indeed fortunate to have a beautiful day for our Grandparents and Special Friends Visit at school.  We invited them into our classrooms with much excitement. They loved the book we had made called ‘Why do we have Grandparents?’.   We helped them do some ‘hard work’ about ourselves and our families and discovered that some of our Grandpas were ‘cheeky boys’ at school. We showed them our favourite places around our school; the Art Room, the monkey bars, the drink taps, the oval where we are not allowed to go… everywhere. Then it was back to the canteen for a ‘cuppa and a bicky’. We returned to our classroom for a quick chat and a thankyou for coming. It was lovely to share our school with some people who are special in our lives.

Here’s a quick video from some Preps.

Dads’ Dinner

It was great to see so many at the much anticipated Dads’ Dinner on Thursday night. Sausages were consumed, monkey bar tricks performed and soccer balls kicked. One Prep was heard to say, “This is the best night of my life!” As the dark set in we moved inside to share some thoughts about how special our Dads are to us. We finished the evening with the Dads and Other Special Friends squeezing  onto  Prep size chairs and  using ‘writing pencils’ to complete the ‘school work’. It was a lovely atmosphere with the Dads having a chance to meet some other Dads, Prep friends and the teachers while seeing their child at school. A HUGE thankyou to the Mums who came, cooked and served 320 sausages and then cleaned everything up. We couldn’t have done it without you.
